The WVU Russian club will be holding a charity chess tournament on Wednesday, November 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
in the Shenandoah Room of the Mountainlair. The entry fee is three dollars and all proceeds will be used to pay for the shipment
costs of three suitcases of toys and toiletries being collected for Russian orphans in the St. Petersburg area and Siberia. They are
also seeking donations from businesses which will be distributed as prizes to the tourney winners.
Last year the Russian Club drew upwards of 40 players for this unrated, single-elimination event. The field was topped by the then
unknown (to our chess clique!) Martin Montero Kuscevic, a WVU graduate student. It was a great time for a great cause and they
would be glad to have the support of the local chess community. If you cannot make the event, but are interested in donating, please email
Dave Iorio at the above address for information on contacting the WVU Russian Club. This event will encompass all skill levels, so feel free to encourage friends
who might enjoy a couple of games. If you can, please bring a board, set, and clock.
