MCC vs. Harrison County CC Match

July 30, 2009

On Thursday, July 30, 2009, more than twenty chess minds converged at Bridgeport's Benedum Civic Center to battle in the first match of the Harrison County Chess Club versus Morgantown Chess Club. It was an opportunity to reconnect with chess friends and make new introductions. Round 1 action ensued with HCCC nearly running the table save for two wins and a draw on board one by MCC. Jim Flesher and Chris Greer subbed in for HCCC in round 2 and proved equally effective as MCC managed to narrow the gap only by six to three. The final tally was HCCC 12.5 and MCC 5.5.

HERE's a list of the results.

I would like to have commented briefly on a few games but Byron had me fully occupied at the board, just managing to defend against kingside sacrifices. Late in the evening, there were players falling out of their chairs, apparently due to chess fatigue!

Congratulations to the Harrison County Chess Club on yesterday's victory and I think this and the number of HCCC players bodes well for the club's future! You have a nice facility for the State Championship. Thanks again to everyone for participating and to Mike Baker for joining the Morgantown crew to even up the lineups. We enjoyed this event thoroughly and look forward to playing again sometime next year!

Yours Truly, Dave Iorio.
