June 12, 2013	Summertime Thursday evening meetings at the First Christian Church are suspended until September because there is no choir practice through the summer. Take a summer break and check this site for further announcements. Also, mark your calendar: announcing the date for the 15th Mountaineer Open is October 26, 2013. Don't forget the MCC Barney Fife Memorial Tournament on July 20.

May 4, 2013	View the 2013 May Day Tournament Results. We had a nice turnout for the 2013 Morgantown May Day Tournament with 12 players from WV, PA and OH participating. Tom Magar led the field with 3.5 points, followed by a three-way tie for 2nd including Chirstopher Shen, Jeff Hohn and Markle Butcher all at 2.5 points. Mike Baker took the U1800 prize with a 2.0 score. Congratulations to Scott Matheny for his first rated game win that earned him 46 rating points. Welcome to Travis Martin who gained 35 rating points by playing in his first MCC tournament and returning to rated game tournament chess after some years away. Thanks to all for supporting the Morgantown Chess Club.

Oct 28	The 14th Mountaineer Open tournament was host to 12 players. Congratulations to Dave Iorio - the clear first place winner with a perfect 4.0 score - Dave gained 101 rating points! Jeff Hohn won 2nd with a 3.5 score. See all the results on the USCF website *HERE*.
Sept 28	The Mountaineer Open is October 27. Send your entry fee by Oct 20 for pre-registration discount. Please bring a friend to join in the fun.

July 26	Here are the results of the Barney Fife Tournament.
June 16	MCC announces a special tournament in honor of Don Knott's birthday on July 21 The Barney Fife Tournament. Much like our other tournaments this is a 4-SS G/75+5sec delay. For the first time, we hope to include unrated players and encourage scholastic level players to join us in a Quad for unrated players. The entry fee for the quad is $5 and will consist of 3 games at 30 minutes time control in a round robin. Prizes to be determined. Please encourage your unrated friends and scholastic players to join in the fun! No advance mail entry required, just show up at 9AM on the day of the tournament and be ready to play chess.

Mar 12	Here is the Pre-registration list for the St. Paddy's Brouhaha!. This will be a good practice warm-up event for the Pittsburgh Open.

Feb 10	We have received approval for our Spring Open tournament. March 17 MCC will hold the St. Paddy's Brouhaha! More details and official announcement to come soon.

Oct 16	The results of 13th Mountaineer Open are posted to the USCF website: 13th Mountaineer Open Results Congratulations to Tom Magar who had a perfect 4.0 score. Next, Dave Hines and Mike Felton shared 2nd and U2000 prizes with 3.0 scores. We had 20 players, up from last year. Please remember in March, 2012 we will have the Spring Open Saturday tournament and in May, we have the May Day Saturday tournament.
Oct 12	We have a preregistration list for the Mountaineer Open that will be held this Saturday Oct 15. Come in and register on-site Saturday Morning!
Sept 8	The date of October 15 for the Mountaineer Open has been approved! The announcement is posted here: 13th Mountaineer Open and the mail-in entry form is here: Entry Form. Please mark your calendar and plan for a great day of Chess in Morgantown.
June 11	MCC hosted a small summer tournament for 5 players. The USCF results are available here. A collection of 6 games from the 2011 MCC Summer Spiel have been added to the website on the Articles & Games page. If there are any corrections to the games on that page, notify Terry Wassell by email.

May 8	Results for the MCC May Day Tournament have been posted. The USCF results are available here. Congratulations to Shih-Houng Young who took first place with a score of 3.5. 2nd place was shared by Tom Magar and Ed Dean. U2000 prize went to David Iorio and U1800 was shared by Markle Butcher and Steve Haskins. Congrats to Henry Graham who won the U1600 prize. Next tournament will be the Mountaineer Open in October. April 17	NOTICE: MCC will NOT be meeting on April 21, 2011. However, we will be making this date up on April 28, 2011.

Mar 20	Results for the MCC Spring Open have been posted. The USCF results are available here. Congratulations to David Saville who scored a perfect 4.0. Newcomer, Ehsan Shirazi, rated 2214(P4), came in second in his first USCF tournament! Congrats to Henry Graham who earned 89 rating points. Mark you calendar for May 7, for the Morgantown May Day tournament.
Mar 14	We have a preregistration list for the Morgantown Spring Open that will be held this Saturday March 19. Come in and register on-site Saturday Morning!
Feb 11	Announcing the Morgantown Spring Open will be held March 19. Apologies to the other tournaments being held on that same date but, we are restricted to the dates made available to us by the Church that supports our club. The MCC Spring Open is 4-SS G/75 format that is different from other tournaments.
Jan 14	We have a list of the chess books donated from John Roush on MCC website. Link: Library. The majority of books (about 400 of them) are displayed on the church bookshelf. Please take advantage of it and improve your chess skill.
