|| The 15th Mountaineer Open on October 26, 2013 was a great day for chess. Congratulations to Dave Hines with First place, and to Jay Mankey who took Second. The U1800 prize was collected by Ben Cowley. Other prizes were shared among Scott Matheny, Dick Cowley and Bill Rice. ||Thursday evening club meetings are being started up again after taking the summer break. For now, the club will meet ONCE a month, on the FIRST Thursday of the month, beginning October 3. Mark your calendars - the date for the 15th Mountaineer Open is October 26, 2013.

We had a total of 12 players for the 50th USCF rated tournament from the MCC ! Tom Magar and Caleb Aites split first prize, with Markel Butcher in 2nd. 2013 May Day Tournament Results. We had a nice turnout for the 2013 Morgantown May Day Tournament with 12 players from WV, PA and OH participating. Tom Magar led the field with 3.5 points, followed by a three-way tie for 2nd including Chirstopher Shen, Jeff Hohn and Markle Butcher all at 2.5 points. Mike Baker took the U1800 prize with a 2.0 score. Congratulations to Scott Matheny for his first rated game win that earned him 46 rating points. Welcome to Travis Martin who gained 35 rating points by playing in his first MCC tournament and returning to rated game tournament chess after some years away. Thanks to all for supporting the Morgantown Chess Club.
