13th Mountaineer Open Results
Congratulations to Tom Magar who had a perfect 4.0 score. Next, Dave Hines and Mike Felton shared 2nd and U2000 prizes with 3.0 scores. We had 20 players, up from last year. Please remember in March, 2012 we will have the Spring Open Saturday tournament and in May, we have the May Day Saturday tournament. |

Results for the MCC May Day Tournament have been posted. The USCF results are available here. Congratulations to Shih-Houng Young who took first place with a score of 3.5. 2nd place was shared by Tom Magar and Ed Dean. U2000 prize went to David Iorio and U1800 was shared by Markle Butcher and Steve Haskins. Congrats to Henry Graham who won the U1600 prize.
Next tournament will be the Mountaineer Open in October. Details later. |

Apologies to the other tournaments being held on that same date but, we are
restricted to the dates made available to us by the Church that supports our club. The MCC Spring Open is 4-SS G/75 format that is different from other tournaments.

The deadline for mailing advance entry for the Mountaineer Open is this Saturday Oct 9. Here is the early list of pre-registered players. Announcement for the 2010 Annual General Meeting on Oct. 21 has been posted. The MCC Club Championship is underway with a small field this year, but there are sure to be some interesting games! |

MCC will meet this evening. The plan is to have some G/10 competition. We will have an informal unrated tournament with as many games as we can manage. I'll bring a radio to listen to the basketball game.

It's March Madness II. Several members have expressed a desire for shorter time games, so MCC is offering Quick Chess G/29 for March Madness II. It's two rounds on two Thursday nights in March. This does not affect your regular USCF rating, only USCF Quick Chess rating. USCF membership required. UPDATE: the group decided to go with an unrated tournament. Seven players started and played 2 rounds. The tournament will conclude March 18.

After a winter storm delay, the Deep Freeze tournament is off to a great start. Eight players joined and held the first round this week. Welcome to Vince and Nelson who are playing in their first USCF rated tournament. The first round results are posted and there are no upsets so far. Caleb takes his first shot as tournament director.

Join us
Club meets Thursday evenings from 7 to 11pm at First Christian Church (basement) in Morgantown (directions). The club is closed the last Thursday of every month.
